Project Overview
LVP & CARPET TILE recently completed a commercial carpet tile installation for a restaurant in Puyallup, Washington. The project involved replacing approximately 2,000 square feet of worn glue-down carpet in the dining area while allowing the business to remain open during normal operating hours.
Because the restaurant needed to continue serving customers throughout the project, all work was scheduled overnight. This approach allowed flooring installation to move forward without disrupting daily operations or affecting the customer experience.
Existing Flooring Conditions
The existing flooring consisted of older glue-down commercial carpet that had experienced years of foot traffic. As with many restaurant environments, the flooring showed signs of wear in high-traffic areas, particularly around seating sections, walkways, and customer access points.
Before installation could begin, the existing carpet and adhesive needed to be removed. Proper floor preparation was essential to ensure the new carpet tile system would perform as intended and provide a clean, professional appearance throughout the dining space.
Project Scope
- Removal of existing glue-down carpet
- Adhesive removal and surface preparation
- Floor preparation and patching where required
- Installation of new commercial carpet tile
- Detail work around walls, seating areas, and transitions
- Final cleanup and inspection
The restaurant remained operational throughout the project, requiring careful scheduling and coordination.
Overnight Installation Strategy
One of the primary challenges was completing the work while the restaurant continued operating during business hours. To accommodate the owner’s schedule, installation activities were performed during overnight shifts.
Each night, crews focused on designated sections of the dining area to maintain an organized workflow and ensure quality control throughout the installation process. Materials, equipment, and work areas were managed carefully so the restaurant could reopen each morning without interruption.
This approach allowed the flooring replacement to be completed while minimizing downtime for the business.
Floor Preparation
Commercial flooring installations are only as good as the surface beneath them. After the existing carpet was removed, the subfloor was inspected and prepared for the new installation.
Old adhesive residue was addressed, and the floor was prepared to create a smooth, stable surface for the carpet tile system. Proper preparation helps improve appearance, reduce installation issues, and support long-term performance in high-traffic commercial environments.
Because restaurants experience constant foot traffic from customers and staff, floor preparation played an important role in achieving a durable finished result.
Carpet Tile Installation
Carpet tile was selected for its durability, maintainability, and suitability for commercial environments. Carpet tile is a popular flooring solution for restaurants because individual tiles can be replaced if damaged, helping reduce future maintenance costs.
Installation was completed throughout the dining area with attention to layout, alignment, and finish details. Special care was taken around walls, seating sections, and other fixed features to ensure a clean and professional appearance.
By dividing the project across three overnight work sessions, installation progressed efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
Completed Results
The completed flooring installation provided the restaurant with a refreshed dining environment designed to handle everyday commercial traffic. The new carpet tile improved the overall appearance of the space while offering a practical flooring solution for long-term use.
Most importantly, the project was completed without requiring the restaurant to close operations, allowing the owner to continue serving customers throughout the installation process.
